Videolectures.net – resource of video lectures online

Anthony Watkinson from University College London was a chairman of session “The Impact of Technology”. It was very interesting to hear Sebastjan Mislej (Jozef Stefan Institute, Ljubljana) with first presentation in this session. He spoke about very perspective project videolectures.net. It is the portal with huge archive of free scientific content. Here users could find video lectures about Architecture, Arts, Biology, Business, Chemistry, Computers, Economics, History and etc. and know about different specifit scientific events like different lectures, conferences, summer schools or workshops. Mr. Mislej thinks this resource in perspective and would help users to find a lot of freshest scientific information they need.

Report from Dr. Ralf Schimmer on APE 2009

Dr. Salvatore Mele was chairman in session Information Discovery and Access: Repositories, Infrastructures, Libraries, How Everything Comes Together. First words in this session were from Dr. Ralf Schimmer from Max Planck Digital Library. Doctor Schimmer presented report on theme “The European Landscape of Licensing”. He told that there are three drivers of licensing: open access, technology and users. He underlined that users mostly are doing more than just reading (for example, some of they are searching for scientific information for their own researches). And he told that his organization (MPDL) would do its’ best to help users to find everything they need for researches.

Words of greeting from Michael Mabe and Karl-Peter Winters

Fourth International Conference on Academic Publishing in Europe (APE 2009) which was taking place from 20 to 21 January in Berlin was opened by CEO of International Association of STM Publishers – Professor Michael Mabe. In his presentation Professor underlined that APE would examine influence of publishing through institutions not only like repositories and libraries but also with regard of usage statistics. Second word was from Dr. Karl-Peter Winters – Member of the Board of the German Association of Publishers and Booksellers. Dr. Winters thinks that one of the most important changes were: the Google book settlement, introduction of Amazon’s Kindle and the Libreka book finder.
